4 to 6 months, but depends on when the baby is ready and will not spit the food out. If they don't understand what it is or how to eat it they are not ready. But when they are ready they will swallow the rice cereal or other solid food and not spit it out.

My baby's doctor recommend about 5 months. The iron in baby will start to deplete around 6 month. So, starting at 5 month, gives baby some times to adjust to eating rice cereal.
Some babies do not like rice cereal at first few tries. So, it does take time for baby to adjust to the texture and taste. If your baby doesn't like rice cereal, put it away for a few days and try again. There are instruction on Gerber Baby's Rice Cereal box on the amount & how to mix.
Rice cereal only provide iron.
As for other baby food (from the jar or made your own kind), it is best to ask the doctor recommendation. Our doctor recommends fruits first, follow by orange veg (carrort etc).
So, work with the doctor.

Theres no "perfect age". Its when your child is ready.
They should be able to sit up UNassisted, and they should be eager to eat.
Also, rice cereal is a HORRIBLE first food.
Its extremely processed, they basically take out the 20 some odd nutrients found naturally in rice and add back 4 of questionable bioavailability.
Even jarred food is lacking alot... natural enzymes and many nutrients that are killed by heat.
The best first foods, IMO, are bananas and ripe avocados... Egg yolks are also very good (esspecially if youre concerned about iron) and soft steamed carrots and boiled potatoes...
By the time the child is ready fo solids, they should be either feeding themselves, or very close to feeding themselves... you can just give them food from your plate.

Hi there ! I think that it all depends on the baby. I have one toddler and tons of nieces and nephew's. I gave my son a tsp or two of rice cereal in his milk (bottled breast milk) at night before going to bed starting at a month old. We began feeding him solids like cereal and basic fruits when he was 4 months old. He's always LOVED to eat. I don't suggest that you cut down on milk (breast or formula) at all ! That's what helps their brains and bodies grow. However, sometimes they just need something a little heavier on their tummies. You really have to consider what's best for you and baby. It's YOUR child and you know your child better than anyone else. If you think that it's time... then go ahead and try. Hope this helps a little !!! =)

It is recommended that you wait until a baby is 4 to 6 months.. and that you start with 2 teaspoons of rice cereal once a day.

i just went through this with my pediatrician. My daughter was born 9lbs 7ounces so she was a big baby. My doctor said normally he would like her to start on cereal, fruits and veggies when she was 6 months but since she was so big and hungry he said I should start her at 4 months. It all depends on the baby. Is your baby still hungry when you just give her formula? If so, then try the cereal! :)

usually not until around 6 mos. The longer the better it helps to avoid allergies if you can wait until atleast 6 mos..Some do eat some solids at 4 mos though. It depends on how much formula or breastmilk they take in..If they seem hungry all the time then maybe he is ready.

as early as 4 months with an average closer to 6 months. your baby should sit well with support and hold her head steady. some babies aren't physically ready at 4 months to handle solids their digestuve systems have to mature and they need to loose a tounge reflex, this happens naturally. talk to your babys doctor about this before starting solid food.
