If the two machines are identical (hardware-wise) then this will work. However, if they are not, then when you put the XP drive into the other machine you will most likely get a Blue Screen Of Death. This is because the XP drive is setup specfic to the hardware profile on the machine to which you originally installed the operating system. I have tried this several times in the past and 99% of the time, we would get the BSOD. When the machines where the same, it worked without any problems.

It will work as long as you set the "jumpers" to the correct position. That will be either master, slave, or cable select. Also, if you want to boot XP on another system, make sure you have drivers that are compatible for any onboard items like video, network adapters, and sound. This could be the only issue you run into.

If you are still going to boot 2000, all you have to do is make sure that is the primary master and the the XP drive is the primary slave and it should work. ( swap those around if you want to boot XP)

hope I helped....

Depends...
If you want to add the hardrive to the other computer as a second hard drive then all you have to do is add it and make sure you have the jumpers set correctly. I added a win me hard drive to my xp computer and then just deleted windows off of the 2nd drive.
If you want the XP hard drive to boot the computer that originally had the 2000 drive in control then you are going to have to format the drive and reinstall windows.

It depends on exactly what you're intention is...

1) If you expect to replace the Win2000 hard drive with the WinXP hard drive and be able to boot up just fine, it won't work unless the two computers have exactly the same hardware configuration.

2) If you just want to add the WinXP hard drive to the Win2000 computer to be able to access the files (not programs), then make sure to add the drive as a slave drive.

no you can't put the XP drive in another computer. it won't boot up like normal. you would have to reinstall the OS to get it to work. XP reads or maps your system and this is why it can't be done. the only way you could do this is if the computers were exactly identicle.

you can put your xp hard drive in your win 2000 computer but it might not boot, if you need to get it running you can boot in safe mode (press the F8 key will boooting). The reason for the computer not to boot is that there are no drivers on the hard drive for the computer to boot with. trying to boot will not damage the hard drive at all...good luck...it might work

You CAN do it. Just make sure that you have all of the hardware drivers saved so that you can reload them. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the video, sound, network card, etc. drivers and keep them handy.

Yes it should work as long as the interface is the same Ex. IDE or SATA. It will just detect the new hardware and reconfigure itself to use it.

If you put it in as a slave you will be able to read and write the drive, but as primary then it wont work.
