Ive seen mention they are dialated when still fairly early - i.e. 32/33 weeks. How would u know if u were? This is my first so excuse the ignorance of the question, just wondering how it works

I started to dilate in my 7th month with my 3rd...I had been having some cramping and mild contractions so told my doc at my appt. and he checked me and I was already at 1.

And P.S. Your boyfriends fingers WON'T FIT in your "wee wee"...as someone here so "delicately" put it...Your wee wee is your urethra (pee hole) and that's NOT where the baby comes out. The baby comes out of your VAGINA.

EDUCATION and proper terminology people so you stop spreading false information!!!

the doctor checks you and tells you if you are dilated. I didn't dilate at all with my baby, but this other girl i knew she dilated to 3 three months early. Dilation is when the cervix opens and effacing is when it gets thin, this happens for alot of different reasons, but as long as you get check ups regularly you'll be fine. And they will let you know if you dialate. my doctor told me that no one should stick fingers in there to check because it can spread diseases to the baby. only someone who is wearing surgical gloves should do that.

The doctor has to check the cervix with a pelvic exam. Some doctors will routines start doing this after about 32wks, others will not check you unless you request. As far as feeling any different, you won't notice it yourself.

Your doctor checks you..But usually not until week 36..Unless you are having contractions or early labor. They want to keep baby in there as long as possible ;)

the doctor would have to check to see, but i guess there would have to be a reason for him to check this early like contractions or something. i never even got checked till i was like 36 weeks with my 1st baby

When your doctor does internal pelvic exams, he or she will tell you when/if you're starting to dilate.

Keep in mind, though, even if you are dilating, that doesn't mean delivery is just around the corner. It doesn't happen often (my doctors exact reponse was "How are you still walking around?"), but I was 4.5 cm dilated before I ever went into active labor.

The only sure way to know is to have your doctor check...there really are no other ways

just ask the doctor to check. There is no way to tell yourself.
