I have driving as a recurring theme in my dreams. Either the brakes don't work, or the steering doesn't steer, and there's always a nice cliff at the side of the road when you can't keep it in control.
I think it's a symbol of not having control of something in your life. Like some outside force is doing the "driving" and you have little control over what happens...

Actually, I don't think I've even had a driving dream where I crashed, but I have had dreams I was trying to fly, but it never worked right. In one, I was "flying" down the hall, but my feet kept dragging. I never could lift off. Maybe your dream is about your lack of control. I think mine was.

Dreams are not meant to be reality. They are exercises in various tasks such as frustration, living, obstacles, etc. Dreams are metaphors. Driving in a dream does not mean driving a car, it means your drive to succeed. You are being thwarted in that goal.
