It costs thousands of dollars to go, especially if you don't apply for financial aid, and then there's still the chance that you won't get a good paying job. I'm not going to college next year, and a lot of people look at me like I'm crazy, but most of those people's parents are paying for their college anyway. Plus there are a lot of people who just drop our, and there are a lot of people who get great jobs just through networking. Is it really worth it?

It TOTALLY depends on whether the knowledge and skills you gain from a college degree are in demand. For instance, I graduated with a Bachelor's fo Science in Nursing. And understand there is a HUGE demand for nurses, and we make pretty good money with good benefits.

College is great. I doubled my hourly wage just by getting into school. I haven't even graduated yet. I plan on paying off my tuition within a year. All 42K plus interest. Sure I also have a part time job, but with some hard work and careful planning I could retire in ten years. That's if I want to. I love my field (culinary).
The only thing I would advise against is going to college before you're ready. If you don't feel college is for you, wait a year or five. Working from the bottom up makes a good story, because it rarely happens. Get a college education and start work at the top, then work higher.

It depends on what you major in and what you plan to do with that degree.

I'll say this, there are people out there that do have college degrees and are working at dead end jobs and are getting paid around 10, 11, 12 dollars an hour and are either barely getting by or can't get by. They're actually getting paid the same as people with high school diplomas.

And what's worse is that there are people out there with college degrees who can't even find jobs, like myself. I graduated two years ago too.

And a lot of those people have a lot of student debt they have to pay off and are having problems paying it off because they're not making any good money.

Having said that, going to college is all up to you. Talk to your parents and come to a conclusion with them.

It is worth it if you take it seriously. If you spend your 4 years partying, then it is a waste of money. If you study and get decent grades then yes it is worth it. The networking is priceless. Many jobs require candidates possess at least a bachelor's degree. The pay is generally better for college graduates and you will have more career choices upon graduating.

My recommendation would be to take general education requirement courses at your local community college and then transfer into a 4 year school. You can save money that way by getting your lab science courses, math, English, etc. completed at a community college. Then when you transfer you can focus on courses in your major.

If you know what you want to do with your life, and it's not teacher, doctor or lawyer, then you can get by without college.

Start some other kind of training, learn to be a plumber or hairdresser or electrician, and you should be ok.

Now, I've worked in a factory before, and I can tell you this. The benefit of going to college is that college graduates usually bathe, daily. College women speak properly, and don't smoke as often, so they're looks usually last longer (except in the UK, where the college girls drinks and smoke and smell worse than the others).

You go to college to meet women. (networking is code for "checking out the babes").

Lawyers, doctors (ok, dentists and shrinks I'll count as doctors) and teachers (which includes professors) need to go to college. Plumbers and construction workers don't.

If you've picked your career, and you're not into partying and reading books, then start your training. College ain't for everybody, it's all marketing to keep the professors rich.

good luck.

On average a new college graduate makes more than $20K per year over someone the same age who just has a HS degree. In addition, college graduates are more likely to enjoy the work that they do.

So -- you do the math. Of course it is worth it.

Yeah, it's worth it. There are ways to go to college less expensively, jr. colleges and such. You'll be sorry if you don't at least take a few courses and experience it. It is a waste of money if the person going wastes the experience and the knowledge that can be had.

if you just plan on being a slug and working for minimum wage, then join the military. food, shelter, and a highly rewarding job.

on the other hand, if you have the money and you wouldnt just waste your life away partying, then yeah. college is completely worth it.

you may wanna look into getting the military to help you pay for college.

go air force!

You should learn a trade, like auto mechanic or plumer, or something you like. so you can always find a job. Then take some college courses at community college, just to expand your brain, so you can hold an intellegent conversation.
