It's happened to me, the guy doing the MOT (legal roadworthyness test) managed to kill the brakes, but didn't tell me, bastard that he is.

I crashed it into 1st from 4th and then used the handbrake.

It stopped, but I took it really slowly from there on in.

Go for the hand brake first and pull it up slowly. Not all hand brakes work so then go down through gears and if you don't have time for that then you have two options. Option A- go into a ditch or optin B- throw it into park. Which throwing it in to park is probably the worst thing to do but it's your car and it depends on what you would rather pay to fix.

slow down through the gears, and if u need to stop quicker, carefully apply the hand break.... and hope like hell u stop in time !

i know that this method works.... i used to live at the top of a very steep hill, and one night when i was due to drive to work, i discovered the brakes were completely gone - broken hose somewhere - all the break fluid had leaked out.... i managed to stop the car using the method above, and then the mechanics who collected my car drove it to the local garage using that method too !

The best thing to do in this situation is to down shift, that is shift the transmission into a lower gear, and pump the brake pedal. If your brakes dont begin to slow you down then use your hand/emergency brake. And of course have a certified mechanic fix it.

Put my foot flat to the floor and see how fast the baby will go !!!!

No, seriously ..... i'd be cr*****g my pants and if i had room just slow down by changing down gears

If there's no time for that then it's a quick tug on the old handbrake and hope for the best!!!

Gear down asap and run the car onto a verge while applying the handbrake.

Grip your **** and hope for the best! No really best thing to do is pull up the hand brake and put it in to first gear this will blow the engine but think of the alternative!!!

Pull on the handbrake/parking brake for all you're worth. Don't turn off the ignition, the steering will lock and you'll crash for sure.

i would probably panic, call the AA, and ask for help, if theres plenty of time anyways.

I would probably go down the gears and engine brake, when im near to stop scream the handbrake on, although if you do it too soon, you could skid.

I would then get out of my car if its safe to do so.
