There are men that show varying levels of respect in all cultures. Middle eastern men are no different.
Granted that culturally women are supposed to "stay in the kitchen or the bedroom" but that does not mean that all Middle Eastern men treat their partners that way.
You have had bad luck. If you will permit me to guess I will say it was because you have been looking for men that will do something for you.
Look for men that share many common interests and that are looking for a best friend and life partner. Stay away from men that are looking for someone to raise their children.
A nice rule of thumb. If he won't let you pay for dinner then he does not see you as a "partner". If you need someone who will pay for everything then don't complain if he treats you like crap. You are not a partner, you are an employee. If you don't like it find another "employer".
