There is no such thing as an appropriate age. Obviously, if you are still in junior high or younger, then it's inappropriate. But other than that, the right time to have sex is when you are mature enough to accept the responsibilites & consequences that come with sex.

Can you afford birth control & condoms? Are you ready to visit a gynecologist? If you get pregnant (because there will always be a chance no matter what), do you have a plan? Are you prepared to handle having a child or giving up one? Are you aware that there's the possibility of getting an STD that may be incurable that you will have for the rest of your life & could spread to others? Is the person who you are having sex with aware of all of these things? Are you both aware of the emotional attachment that may come with physical intimacy? Think about all of these things before making your decision. If you are still hesitant & have to wonder about any of these things or are frightened by these thoughts, then you aren't ready to have sex.

P.S.- If you are asking when the right age is, then you aren't ready NOW.

My daughter came to me with the question about going on birth control because of irregular cycles I told her that I would take her to the doctor and i also informed her that just because your on birth control that doesn't mean that you are ready to have sex after giving her the lecture about your not ready to have sex with man, women or beast, we went to the pharmacy to pick up her pills and I stopped to grab a box of condoms I then told her "you on the pill you may say that you are or will not be having sex any time soon , if by some odd chance that you might think it's OK you need to protect your self not only from pregnancy but from any thin that you may get that you can't get rid of theses days having sex seems to be something our children are doing far earlier than they should be and having a baby out of wedlock or as a teen isn't as much of Selma as if a child or an adult goes out to have sex and comes down with one of those illness that can kill you so not only is there a risk of emotional readiness threes also the idea of bringing a baby into this world that you may not be ready to handle and then you have to think about the fact that having sex unprotected could kill you ...not a wise idea..
sorry so long ...so I ended up telling my daughter to wait till she was 35 that seems to be a good age .

Your question wrongly assumes that all people are identical to each other.

People mature sexually, emotionally, intellectually at different ages.

People have different attitudes about sex. People have different degrees of knowledge about sex, and about the downsides sex can have.

Sex is appropriate for a person when that person wants it (not wants, say, love, and thinks sex is the way to get it, but wants sex), is able to take appropriate precautions, and has someone who wants to have sex with them.

The question in my mind isn't what's a good age....it's is the relationship the right one. If it is a relationship that is committed and loving and moving forward to a long term place. I am referring to a relationship over a year old at least. Experience.

I don't recommend a person having sex until they are married that's God's word. Pre-marital sex is just wrong according to God's words even if its 50 when you get married. Wait on the Lord and HE will bless you greatly.

Anytime they are truly ready after turning 16. Only when they are ready and not because their partner is ready. Only when they are prepared to use condoms at all times no matter what.
