"I am a Microsoft Beta Tester and I have used all Vista Beta versions as well as final release and all I have to say is dont waste your time on it right now...it is a bit complicated from some aspects...from some aspects i say it again....and most of the software are not compatible with vista yet....and other part is if you dont have a vista compatible PC or even if you have one....it comsumes a lot of memory....I have 2 GB of memory and it consumed about 600 MB's sitting Idle...which should give you a pretty good idea about vista right now...and there are still bugs with its USB drivers....so I would recommend you to stick with XP or if you wanna get Vista better wait for atleast 1 year or so and let vista set it fields".... = http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApzUlDU1_HfbUI69v6cEBlRz7hR.?qid=20070219084347AAYL3Vp

Windows Vista still has alot of bugs, but most windows users will eventually migrate to Vista one day, so get used to it. If you are getting a new pc you might as well get one that has Vista already installed, if you plan to upgrade try to at least wait until Microsoft releases the 1st service pack for Vista, hopefully most of the bugs will have been worked out by then

Best is a very subjective term. What's best to me might not be the same as what's best to you.

If you don't have much memory, stick with XP, Vista is a memory HOG. Even worse than XP was over 2000. If you've got an uber machine with lots of memory, processor power and hard drive space, go crazy and try Vista.

At this particular time, XP. It is proven and solid. It runs faster in less RAM. It does not make you jump through hoops just to save a file or a favorite. Vista is not quite settled. It needs a service pack to fix a lot of the errors right now. You won't see one before June.

I would stick with XP, unless the machine comes with Vista pre-installed.

XP has better driver support, is more stable/tested, uses less resources, and there is a larger user and support base.

"Better", not "best".

Anyway, the answer depends on whether features that are added to Vista will be of use to you. Use this link to figure that out : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_windows_vista
If you're buying a new laptop/PC, it is a no brainer : Go with Vista

It all depends on what you prefere. My opinion is Windows XP, but it all depends on what you like to work with.
