Go to Tools > Options then the Main tab and check the box at the bottom marked "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup". Click OK.
Then quit and restart Firefox.

Open mozilla, for version 2.x.x
Go to Tools > options > general > main , check the check-box that says "always check to see if firefox is your default browser". apply.
close mozilla and re-open it again. you will be prompted to make mozilla your default browser.
