I mean, aren't the politicians supposed to listen to all of us and not a "sampling" of voters? I've been voting since I turned 18 and I still don't get it. I really don't think that anyone up there gets the Constutition, not really. We elect them, they listen to us, isn't that how it's suppossed to work? All of this sniping, backbiting and personal attacks are what turn people OFF to the process. Come on, Guys! Clean it up or we're all in trouble here..

I think people like you give yourselves and your opinions way too much credit.

Our elected officials, especially Congressmen, do listen to their constituents. The majority of which probably disagree with you.

Then there are times where they know more than the masses do and they come up with different opinions on what should be done.

Then there are times when a decision has been made, later found to not be backed by what intelligence was given, and the responsibility for making that decision has to be taken. Not just to say "oops, my bad" and leave the country in ruins.

History didn't begin when you turned 18.

Even the Costitution itself is the result of a lot horsetrading and sausagemaking.

Ask yourself why slaves were counted as two-fifths (I think. At any rate it was a fraction) of a free white male for purposes of apportioning each state's allotment of representatives.

Because that was what it took to bring the slave states into the union.

As far as the personal attacks go, check out the sort of things said about Jefferson, Adams, and Jackson.

It is no longer about being a cohesive people with a common goal. Winning in Iraq? Simply done with adequate resources. Health care? The same. But nothing happens because of the whole getting elected thing.

What happened to the whole Winston Churchill or Ronald Reagan thing? A job whatever it is needs to be done and we can debate about it later kind of thing.

You have it backwards you should be listening to your leaders and seeing what they are really saying and doing.

You seem to be opting for a larger "sampling". The idea of electing a leader is to have them learn about the issues. To speak intelligently about them and occasionally they should do things that we don't agree with because they are supposed to know more about it.

Instead we all people to run for office using sound bites created from the last poll results.

If you want it cleaner then stop talking and start listening. Make informed decisions about candidate. If you still want to be listened to, then run for office.

Thank you for your rant. We the people has been replaced with I the egomanical politician. We need to take things back so that an average joe like you or I could run for office as oppossed to rich lawyers who raise millions for the purpose of being elected to office and then beginning the job of rewarding your highest contributors.

I'm glad you vote - make sure you keep voting for the people that you think would best represent your views. They do follow the Constitution, and so do we. You have the priviledge of voting, free speech, freedom of religion, the right to defend yourself... I'd say we all "get" the Constitution... our Congressmen and women represent us, but no where does it say that they have to bend to the demand of each and every citizen.

How about a government of, by and for the people seems missing also.

edit: only way we got to really voice our wants and needs is through the vote, so keep it up. Something isn't working for you work to change it. VOTE.

well for one thing, you don't necessarily have to win the popular vote to win the election. now doesn't that make you and your mighty vote feel like midsummer lettuce after a hailstorm? guess who does have a direct voting system? russia!

quite simply, voting isn't enough. the next real change will be brought on by a grassroots movement which will no doubt meet with a fair amount of government/media resistance. those gutter kids with che tshirts might be good for something after all.
