Voting is a privilege, not a right ( nowhere in the constitution of the US says that you have the "right" to vote. This is a big misconception that most people have ).

By becoming a US citizen, you are given the privilege to vote but only after you have pledge alliance to the country ( in case of a war between the US and any other country a US citizen that aids the enemy will be a consider a traitor, a non-citizen will be treated as a spy ) and also have swear on record to uphold the rule of law and the US constitution.

A non-citizen can own property in the US because we have a free market and they have also access to some minor benefits due to basic human rights, but only those who live and stand by the US constitution and have pledge to protect the country, should remain the ones that decide who is the best person to govern them.

NO.....absolutely not. Only citizens of a particular country should be allowed to vote in that country, or county, or state. Owning property shouldn't matter. Otherwise we could all go buy up some land in some foreign country, and vote for their government. If an alien comes here, and wants to vote, he will have to become a citizen first, and he'll have the duties of a citizen, like jury duty, etc. before he can have the privilege of voting.

No. In order to vote a person must want to take an interest in our country. If that interest does not include becoming a citizen then they should not vote. I am not so sure they should be allowed to own property either. The rights bestowed on us from the constitution are for citizens, people that accept a social contract with the U.S. The country will provide for you if you take part in the country.

No! Being a part of the Land of the Free still has rules and those rules need to be followed if we still plan on being a free country.

Some people think just because this is America they can do what they want. If you can't take the time to become a citizen, pay your taxes and respect the land then you certainly should not be able to vote.

I believe that if non-citizens are not going to bother with becoming U.S. citizens, they should not be given the right to vote. It seems only right that people who are citizens be involved in how this country is run and who leads it. While not always true, for the most part citizenship requires a certain loyalty to our country and if that isn't there it seems to me a non-citizen might not care anough to research what they are voting for. If a non-citizen cares about and is loyal to this country, they would also care enough to become a legal citizen of the United States.

No, they should not be able to vote till they are citizens. I noticed that some of the answers up there confused between voting, on one hand, and other rights as well as their legal status on the other hand: legal residents of the United States should have all the rights of a citizen, except for voting. Just the fact that one is not a citizen doesn't mean that the person is here illegally.

No they should not be given voting rights, they are here illegally. The broke our laws. If they want to go through the process of becoming an American Citizen, then I am not against them having the right to vote.

When a person crosses our borders illegally, they are basically stealing resources from our country to better themselves. How is that right? They go to our hospitals and get healthcare that they cannot afford, costing the hospitals millions a year, which is passed onto us. They mooch on free education and basically take advantage of american generosity.

If you are for giving free stuff to illegals, please make a donation to a organization who caters to these law breakers.

The answer should be "HELL NO." However, most democrats would want this to be true as the millions of illegals would certainly be voting democrat.

Illegal immigrants should be kicked out.
legal immigrants should not vote until they have obtained citizenship.

Citizens should speak english and be willing to assimilate into American culture, not the other way around.

Don't agree with me on the last statement? Then perhaps your mother should be flogged for not wearing a veil in public in accordance with sharia law. Because that's what is going to happen in your multi-culturalist BS world.

I do not believe they should.I think America is too free as it is .
If you can work and live here then why cant you become a citizen? I know sometimes there are different circumstances
that prevent people from doing so , but if you are here for longer than 5 years that's enough time to make up your mind.
