I am currently 5 weeks pregnant, about 8 weeks ago I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks. Before I started trying for a baby I went to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and did quite strenuous exercises. Now I am pregnant I am really concerned as to what exercise is safe to do, I am petrified that if I do too much I could cause myself to miscarry, but at the same time I still want to keep fit. Anyone know what exercises I can do?

Hi, I am now 34 weeks pregnant with my second child and a fitness fanatic. I was training every day before i fell pregnant this time around. I have been exercising all through this pregnancy.
I did not know i was pregnant until about week 7 and I had still been excercising the same as before and lifting my heavy weights.
Continue your exercise, just lower the impact and try and take it a little easier. Try aqua aerobics, lower your weights a little and cut the cardio down in time and intensity. Yoga is wonderful during pregnancy as it can help with labour (it did for me the first time around!). There is no reason to stop during pregnancy the more active you are the better the pregnancy, labour and easier it is to get back into shape afterwards. The main thing to remember during pregnancy when exercising is to keep your body temperature down, you don't want to overheat!
Things happen for a reason and gentle exercise certainly will not cause miscarriage especially if you're body is used to it.
Enjoy your pregnancy, good luck with everything.

You shouldn't really do any exercise that might give shortage of oxygen to the growing foetus.
Gentle exercises such as regular long/short walks could be enough to keep you fit and healthy and unharm your baby.
I don't think you should risk harming your baby but I'm sure you can ask your gym instructors for their opinion. Good Luck with your baby.

If you want to do aerobics, you should try water aerobics. Zero impact, but still great exercise. They often have classes just for pregnant mommies. There are also other classes for pregnant mommies you can look into, such as yoga. Check with your gym and see what they have to offer for pregnant people.

You can do light excersises, walking, swimming, yoga, and you can also do some gym work, the instructor can give you info on this. Its good to excersise when pregnant, and they say you have an easier birth.

Good Luck!

do light excercises, swimming would be good.
I would consider consulting your GP too, they will be able to go into detail of a suitable excercise regime.
Make sure you take folic acid they say thats a nesessity in pregnancy.(rice krispies contain a lot of this by the way)And a good diet is important too, again consult your GP
