Wow--- how scientific! Sounds like these books just give Moms one more thing to worry about! They're probably the same ones that tell you exactly when your baby should smile or walk or sit by itself! Babies are little people, even in the womb--- as different from one another as can be!
I had 7 healthy wonderful babies--- and I never once counted how often they moved. You are absolutely right; some days they move a lot and some days they seem to sleep a lot (I mean, its boring in there-- I'd sleep a lot too!)
Just so they move every so often, so you know they are alive. Don't forget, when you are busy you won't be noticing their movements as much anyway--- that's why when we lie down to go to sleep it always seems like the baby straps on some roller blades and wants to rock and roll!
When I got to wondering, I'd stand with my belly against the kitchen counter and turn the blender on high--- the sound always startled the baby and I'd feel it 'jump'--- which was great, since then I knew that not only was it alive, it could hear too. (I always felt a wee bit guilty, though, for scaring my poor baby!)
Don't worry--- be happy! Congratulations! You are so lucky! I'd do it all over again if I could--despite all the work and worry.

I've even heard that it's 10 moves in 2 hours. I guess it just depends on who is saying it. I had brought up my concern with how much less my daughter was moving to my doctor and she said that at this stage (33 weeks) that the baby is going to be moving a bit less but as long as your baby seems to be moving normally, it's ok. It's when you really don't have any movements at all or a big decrease that you should worry a little. Good luck!

With my last pregnancy--she was a stubborn little girl (and still is).
I noticed some days she was more active than others. I didn't worry too much about it as long as every couple of hours I could feel some movement.
Once I didn't feel her all afternoon and went off to the hospital, which was a 50 minute drive. On the way there she finally started moving... I think she was just waiting to make sure I was really worried about her?? I don't know...kids!

They really slow down as they run out of room. They say 8-10 movements in 2 hours...so I'd use that as a rule of thumb. In my experience, girls move less than boys. Also, some babies have "lazy days" when they just don't feel like doing much.

I have always been told that 10 movements in two hours but it isn't the end of the world if it doesn't happen. Eat something and the baby should move. Or your baby is just sleeping.

I am 33 weeks and my doctor said as long as I can count 8 kicks in an hour after I eat or while I am resting. This is not every hour.

As long as your baby is moving, you need not worry. I think the books are just offering suggestions. Every baby is different. Some move a ton, some move alot less. My sister-in-law's baby was a mover and shaker, and my baby was alot calmer. Congrats!

I think the important thing is that your baby is moving...I'm not sure it is critical that you have a certain number of movements in a certain time frame. Talk with your midwife, hopefully she will calm any fears or concerns that you have.
