Go outside! We just started doing this with our just-turned-7 month old. She has SO much fun...we let her cruise around the driveway and sidewalk...it's funny to watch her try to keep up with her 4 year old brother on his bike LOL

We too have carpeting inside (except the dining room but she's not allowed in there anyway) so we've pretty much given up on it inside...we just use the exersaucer or she crawls around.

Good luck and happy chasing!

Walkers are not necessarily the best "teaching" tool for babies. You can get an exersaucer to help them build muscle and balance. You can also just help them by holding them up and giving them your hands to steady themselves. Walkers can be dangerous and sometimes even an hinderance in learning walking skills as the "pushing" motion is not the same as the walking/balancing motion. At 6 months you may just be expecting a little too much. 9 months is considered early, some babies dont walk until 15 months.

Try laying a sheet down over the carpeted area you want him to walk on.
Be careful with walkers, watch him closely.

There are some things you can do to help your baby in developing her motor skills. These may well help her start to walk earlier:
• While indoors your baby should be allowed to walk bare-foot because it is far easier for a baby to learn how to walk this way (as opposed to wearing shoes). Just remember to make sure that the floor is not slippery.
• Hold your baby by her torso when helping her learn to walk – do not hold her by her arms and legs.
• You can try and “entice” your baby to develop her motor skills for walking. For example, bribe her by holding her rattle/toy just beyond her reach so that she has to crawl and get it.
