either one of 3 things.. first would be that there is no failing and that everything is happening as it should.. that democracy is winning out.. and even if you don't agree with everything that is happening it is still moving in the right direction over all.

next would be that since democracy is a government of the people for the people by the people then it can only be that the people have failed democracy

and finally it could be that our government has changed and is no longer a democracy (or republic as the case may be) and in that way it has failed us.

This is an interesting question.
Democracy and freedom are two separate entities. Democracy is the form of government, whereas freedom relates to the individual. I think democracy in the USA has succeeded where so many others have failed because it is the first democracy established with the ideal of liberty and freedom for all people not just an elite.
Considering that democracy is a form of government chosen by a free people, then your question would be; is the government failing freedom or is freedom failing the government.
In my opinion, democracy is the tail on the dog of freedom. If there is a failure, it could only be democracy failing us. But anytime that happens, freedom always corrects it.

We are failing democracy! Americans do not follow the issues and just take the word of "experts." We have stopped reading newspapers (which gives more detailed information) and watch five minute reports on the news. Americans also have a terrible voting record. Less than half the people eligible to vote do so. We need to become more involved with the workings of our government so that we can realize when politicians are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

I think we are absolutely failing democracy. John F. Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Democracy is a government by the people. Nearly half of Americans don't vote and we are now a government of the few, those who can influence events by money or power. Do you think the Rebublicans would stand a chance of winning nationwide if all Americans voted?

The President is failing democracy. He is acting like a king, not like a United States President. He forgets that yes, the majority rules in this country, so if the majority of U.S. citizens want to bring this war to an end, it's time to listen.

We are not a failing democracy, because we are a Republic.

Our democratic feeling are expressed everyday, just read these posts.

And if we want to see our country change for the better, we need to change our politics, and set term limits for members of Congress.

I believe democracy fails us when some voters are turned away or required to wait in long line while others have ore open access to voting machines.

Democracy fails us when even one vote is not counted.

Democracy fails us when electronic voting machines don't work properly

Ignorant and/or lazy citizens, lying politicians, and a government leashed neither by law or constitution are failing democracy

we are failing democracy. 70% of the population believes our president lied to us yet there is no demonstration of that outrage. for democracy to work we all need to stand and be counted. Since it's clear that our president isn't listening then we need to aim that message at congress (they seem to be listening these days) and tell them enough is enough.

i might say democracy has failed us -- we did no longer ask for lobbyist and billion dollar campaigns and a few sources of considerable flow media -- you are able to not blame 3 hundred million human beings for that's issue that may not in any respect get solved -- blame people who have been given us right here and upward thrust up against them yet regrettably issues ought to get lots worse for that to take place for human nature is human nature -- suitable now they have us divided
