the only appointment I could get was 9 days after my period started. (they were busy at the doc's office).

My period was on
monday march 19th the following sunday would be:
sunday march 25th

today is march 27th.
My doctor gave me 28 day ortho tri cyclen lo and said to start taking it next sunday.
I thought you could only take it the sunday after your period.
She said I wouldn't be protected this month and to use backup. (because she knows she told me to sort of start on the wrong day). She said I could just wait till next month when I get my period to start but she thinks I should start now (next sunday) so that I get a little bit more extra protection (because condoms arn't 100% effective).

Now, my question is:
should I start next sunday, April 1st... then start a new pack when I get my period (April 21st) or can I start now (today) March 27?

my cycle is 34 days long, and this pill says 28 days, I'm assuming it will adjust my cycle.

if you are a nurse or a doctor, please state that in your source. also, why would my doctor say next sunday, shouldn't I start as soon as possible?

No don't start now...do like she said and start Sunday April 1st....Always with your very first pack of pills you should always use extra protection..even if you had started last Sunday....It really does not matter what day you start...just keep it that way...the reason for a Sunday start is that it is easier to remember and as a rule you would never have your period on a weekend... That alone is reason enough for most people...You have been having a 34day cycle but the pills will put you in a 28 day cycle....and it will also cause you to have lighter periods...Don't be alarmed if you have a small amount of spotting with this pack as you are taking it...that is normal and don't stop taking them...you will finally get into a good cycle and should feel much better....Hit me with an email if you want to know more....

start taking it next sunday like your doctor said. what's so confusing about that? begin the 1st, finish the pack then begin the next... why would u stop after only 20 days? And no, don't start today, it'll get confusing because of how the pills are labeled. follow the doctors instructions. You're supposed to wait a full cycle before relying fulling on the pill anyway so I don't see the problem.
and yes, the pill will completely adjust your cycle.

Birth control is a hormone going into your body. It doesn't matter when you're cycle currently is. You're birth control is your new cycle. You're birth control is your new calendar. Don't follow the calendar on your wall. Your packs are your new calendar. Each pack represents a month. Each row or color represents a week. Start April 1st to avoid confusion. For your very first pack, use condoms. This is because your putting these hormones into your body and it may take a month for your body to adapt. Once you get into the habbit of using the pill, it becomes easier to understand. If you have any questions, you can contact me.

Start it on sunday and just take the pack untill its done then start the new pack once you run our of pills on your current pack. Don't start a pack then stop and restart for your period. Always take one pill a day, your cycle may be late or early, you will probably get your period durng your last seven pills in your pack. Even if you still have your period when your pack ends start up a new pack of pills.
