Wanting to produce some renewable energy I have tried to construct a small hydroelectric power plant in my back garden. This involves pumping water up to a sufficient height to fall at the required speed to power the dynamo. In order to be sufficient I am powering the pump from the dynamo but its not working! what shall I do - i can't use electricity to pump it - not renewable!! HA

You have proved once again that perpetual motion machines do not work due to losses in the system. Forget the pump. Rely on a rainwater resevoir above the dynamo. Or give in and get some solar panels.

Try solar panels. They work really well at our summer place (we don't have any other source there). They can be a bit on the expensive side, but we got ours second hand.
