What the people of this century keep forgetting is that Europe was once just as volatile, if not more so, as the Middle-East. For century after century, war broke out in Europe on a global scale.
This constant state of warfare in Europe didn't end until the USA, a basically neutral party in European politics, stationed 250,000 troops smack in the middle of Europe for 40 years after WWII.
These 250,000 troops stabilized the area long enough for the countries of Europe to start settling matters by dialog rather than by arms. It has now been over 60 years since Europe has been rocked by a major conflict. Western Europe has never enjoyed that many years of peace in all of its history.
The same type of commitment maybe needed in the Middle-East. It may take a large stabilizing force, one bigger than there is now, to end the fighting and open up dialog between the factions.
This is not something the USA can do alone. It would benefit the entire world to bring peace to the Middle-East. It should be a worldwide effort.

The Americans have to ask foreign countries for their assistance because the Demoncratic Party thinks that the humorous deaths of our American Soldiers will just do great for their chances in the 2008 election. Through NATO the President can give the U.S. Military all they need just by making a request for it. Congress can't stop the President at getting the troops what they need. They can only show the world how bad their Party has became.

To keep Afghanistan stabilized. We have defeated the terrorists of that nation, but now need to continue our war in Iraq with the insurgents. We can't be in two places at once. We are not magicians, only humans with a righteous cause. Bless our troops, and our allies. Without them fighting for those of us at home, terrorists rule us, and that cannot happen. We are America, and don't take any crap off anyone, and neither should any other free society, like England. Go troops! I love you!

OK, brother. I am against globalization in that I don't feel it is a country's right to tell another sovereign what to do. I am a realist in that I know we must act together as a people to achieve the best for ourselves and our nations....

But then again maybe you weren't asking me, as I only bash the French (I've been to France and was treated like "crepe" by the people).

Penny Mae, we are informed interior the Bible that we are meant to assist our government no count number what our thoughts. I accomplish that thoroughly. Our troops are completely volunteer meaning that they are there for our benefit not with the aid of fact we tension them to accomplish that. i think that makes them fairly super adult males and girls! i'm going to proceed to wish for and help them in all of our efforts foreign places and at homestead. Have a super week. thank you, Eds .

we do not ask for more troops. NATO, in which we are a member asks for more troops. Europe is part of NATO and therefore must shoulder the burden on the war against terror. It affects them too. In fact, Bosnia, which remotely didn't affect us, drew our troops because of NATO mandate.

Spare us the hyperbole.

I am sure the "conservatives of yahoo" will be pleased to see our European allies continue to shoulder their share of the load in the GWOT.

Assuming, of course, that the additional forces are provided.

I'm pretty sure that if Europe stepped up to the plate, they could stop accusing the US of being the "world's police."

There are not any "foreigner bashing conservatives of yahoo," JGF, only sensitive foreigners who cannot take what they dish out.

And this is a US web-site, and you come here daily and slam us. I think you are getting exactly what you come here to get.
