I agree that it was Tony Adams. The reason that we bang on about winning the world cup was because it was the greatest moment in English footballing history. I agree that we should have won more trophies since then and Saturdays game was just appalling. The current breed of footballers think that they just have to turn up and the job is done. They have become too powerful and not qualifying for Euro 2008 is just the thing they need to bring them crashing back to earth. Most of these players are Millionaires by the time they are 22, have MBE's or OBE's and they haven't achieved anything!
English players are over-paid, over-rated and under worked but at least they have progressed further than the group stages of the finals, unlike Scotland.

It was defintley Tony Adams. He played against Spain aged 20 years, 131 days on 18 Feb in a friendly. This made him the first player to play for England who wasn't born before England won the world cup.

Very good Q .... Obviously it's some one who'll be 40 or 41 by now. I Have a funny feeling that many years ago I heard a factoid like this and I think the answer might be Tony Adams. He was definitely born in 66 and he won his first cap in 1988 under Bobby Robson .... I've had a good think but can't think of anyone who'll come close to that. Sheringham's about the same age but didn't get his first cap till he was about 26

I agree with the 1st answer.
Is it any wonder us Scots dont support "them" in World Cups & Euro Champs. They've won 1 thing in their history and bang on about it as if it was yesterday.
Get over it. It was 41 years ago and a country the size of England (about 55mill) should have won more than 1 WC in their history.
Mind you, the reason they keep talking about that is their team now are crap. They better watch or the mighty Scotland will soon catch them in the rankings.
