Hmm, unbiased. I doubt that's possible as a Democrat will be biased in one direction and everyone else will be biased in the other. Oh well, I'll give it a shot.
I assume you don't want the 7,000 page dissertation it would take to fully explain the Democratic Party. I would suggest that you read their platform. It doesn't really matter what the politicians say, they will vote on party lines 99% of the time. So read the platform to find out what they think. You may want to read the Republican platform and the Communist Manifesto while your at it.
Anyhow,
Basically the democratic party believes in socialism, which is very good in theory, but somewhat lacking in practice.
This means they believe that the government is better able to take care of the public's needs than is the general population. For this reason, they believe in high taxes, lots of government aid, and lots of government interferrance in your daily life.
This of course ignores the fact that government is made up of politicians who all come from the general population. They are no smarter or more capable than any other member of the population. So what makes them more qualified to know what I need than I am is beyond me.
Also, for a Democrat, the highest (perhaps only) value is that of tolerance. The gravest insult you could give a Democrat is to call them a bigot. A Democrat doesn't want to tell anyone that they are behaving poorly (appearently they've included terrorists in the group of people they don't want to offend). The Democratic Party wants to force everyone to accept everyone's actions no matter how immorral they might be. They have no set of moral standards that apply to everyone. Well other than that everyone must accept everyone else's actions.
If you stand up for a belief that disagrees with someone else's belief then you are a terrible person and must be persecuted harshly.
That basically sums up the democratic party.
1) The general population is stupid and can't take care of themselves, and
2) Anything the general population does is right and must be accepted as good.
I'll leave it you to find the inconsistencies between those two premises.
Obviously I am a Republican and believe the exact opposite.
I believe that you can take care of yourself and that there is such a thing as right and wrong.
Naturally, there are thousands of issues tied up in this but they all basically boil down to those two things.

The difference between the two parties can best be seen in the topics of how to pay for the government, what the government owes to it's citizens, and how to handle commerce.
The Democrats believe that the government should be paid according to how much benefit an individual derives from their residence in this country - high incomes are taxed at a higher rate than low incomes.
Democrats believe that the government is best suited to provide a safety net to it's citizens when disaster or economic downturns strip the life savings and livelihood from people. That charitable giving may be low at the very time it is needed and is therefore unreliable. That large businesses hold a disproportionate power compared to workers and the government must take a protective position to keep abuses from happening - as they have in the past.
Democrats believe that businesses should be held to the rule of law the same as people are and inspections and regulations are necessary to keep honest businesses competitive with those who would cut corners of safety and honesty in order to get ahead.

What it means to be a Democrat is that you must oppose the ideals of our founding fathers - capitalism and individual freedoms for the ideals of Karl Marx - socialism and the welfare state. Democrats stand for all the little ISMS, like environmentalism, judicial activism, and multiculturalism that lead to the challenging of the Constitution (as written) for the purpose of converting it into a "living" document. The purpose of this change is to force fundamental alterations in our Republic through the reduction of INDIVIDUAL personal freedoms and the concept of majority rule for substitution by a Socialist Democracy through the CREATION of additional (civil) rights for minorities and special interests in order to foster minority rule. Democrats subscribe to the ideals used in the usurpation of the Constitution including, gay rights (marriage), gun control, social justice, affirmative action quotas, welfare (institutionalized charity), nationalized health care, frivolous lawsuits/civil litigation, taxation, multicultural diversity, religious tolerance, political correctness, and organized crime/labor unions.

New ideas for prosperity progress and peace.
Dems stand for civil rights, honest government, national security, diplomacy, and the pursuit of happiness.
I put my trust in the Democratic party because they have younger and fresher views for society. I believe Democrats are invested in the future, where as Republicans are more for the here and now.

Liberals share a belief in individual rights, free enterprise, representative democracy, and the rule of law. In this sense, almost all Americans accept liberal ideals, so much so that it is easy to forget how revolutionary these ideals were when the American Constitution was written. Jefferson said "peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none." All of our founding fathers considered liberalism a foundation of “the grand experiment”, America. In our era, liberalism has been derided to appear weak and elitist, and, our military is used to enter entangling alliances with some. Think liberal, think BIG!
