Wearing a nice suit is usually a good thing unless you were applying to be a pig farmer or janitor lol.
You've heard the saying though, if you want the part you've got to dress the part.. well, what was the "part" you were going for?
That is strange that she would laugh, usually a prospective employer would be impressed that you came in looking professional.. that lady was probably on some meds lol

It's much better to overdress for an interview than to underdress. If you live close enough to the interview place, just visit the day or week before and note what everyone is wearing. Or better yet, call and ask! Don't worry about the old woman laughing at you, unless she was the president of the company!

For almost any interview wearing a suit is OK. Even if you were interviewing a factory job, the suit wouldn't hurt you. If the woman was interview for the same job she most likely worried she lost the job to you. If she worked there I still wouldn't worry, unless she was the interviewer.

I have heard that you should wear an outfit that is one level above what you would be wearing on a day to day basic. I work in construction and am in jeans and button up shirt most days. I go with dress pants a tie, maybe a sweater, and dress shoes. When i interviewed for a tech postion I added a sport coat. Hope this helps

She probably had Alzheimers... pay no attention. You were dressed appropriately. Man or woman, a suit in a subdued color is still the proper interview attire.

Apropriate attire adjusted to the environment of the interviewers taste and usually a more formal unless "hinted" otherwise. I usually am straight forward and ask the person who is setting up the interview.

Well i guess it depends on what job you are applying for. whether for a formal job or unformal job one has to dress compared to the surroundings.
