Convict Cichlids. They are the best parents. They have babies about every 2 months and they raise them & protect them until they're healthy enough to live on their own. They are also voracious at defending their territory. They also dig pits constantly.

My favorite thing they do is push a java fern baby back & forth like a reverse tug of war, trying to mark off their territory. They usually do this while puffing up their gills & threatening the other fish.

I also love how they change color when its time to mate. The female gets like a disco glitter on her side & her fins turn from grey to aqua & turquoise colors.

I purely have 2 favourites: Kribensis cichlid, and the similar old suspect of the Betta. I have 0 Kribs (regrettably :( ) and a million betta. i could opt for to get a breeding pair of Kribs, quite of initially desirous to reproduce bettas. i like the Kribs because of their surprising hues, and the very reality they're quite a lot less common than the betta or neon tetra etc. also i respect how they're astounding mothers and fathers interior the fish international. Bettas i like for his or her classy finnage and form of hues, and how incredibly a undertaking that's to reproduce them. Neither are really choosy on water parameters yet in case you breed Kribs in pHs above or below 7, you eventually end up with as a rule similar sex fry! i come across that so staggering. also the end results of Krib fry is amazingly almost consistently gonna be solid, while with Bettas that is gonna be... properly, hit or omit; you receives some surprising ones and some mutts, with the purpose to talk. also, Kribs could promote for slightly more effective than bettas and their fry are a lot less artwork and time ingesting than a betta's batch are.

Right now I'm enjoying watching my killifish spawn. They hit the breeding mops every morning when they get about 30 minutes of sunlight just as the sun comes up and this triggers the spawning.

Yeah, the sublight causes some algae, but no big deal for the joy of the brightly colored fish reflecting the sun and watching them spawn.

My favourite fish are my lake Malawi cichlids.I have an auratus, kenyi and red zebra but you can't put them in a community tank with other fish.I also really like my pictus catfish.I'm not sure if you could get them or not it would depend on your tank size and what you already have.

German blue rams, apistos and discus. Most of these aren't for the beginners but they are the most beautiful fishes you can ever have (snakeskins, iridescant colors, multi colored, etc.)

Not exactly a beginner's fish however. How large is your tank? What's in there now?
