I have an idea that might help ( I actually tried this many years ago and it worked for me)
You'll need the following items.
a coffee can
a calendar
On the calendar mark the paydates.
Every payday, take at least $20 and put it in the coffee can and hide it.
Write down where you hid the can on the calendar so when the next payday comes you know where you hid it.
Another thing that helps is to separate "spending cash" from expenses and savings
One thing that helps curb spending is to not have that much cash on hand. It's pretty much a proven fact that if cash on hand is spent far quicker than when it's not on-hand.
In addition to the coffee can and a calendar, you may want to look into a prepaid debit card to keep your "spending cash" away from your expenses. It's easy to come up short sometimes when everything is in the same pot. If you have a checking account, use that for bills and what not and the prepaid card for stuff like food, convenience store items. and the coffee can for you savings still.
I know that it sounds like a lot of work, and some parts of it is crazy, but I bet that after 3 months of following what I said to a tee, you'll have at least $200-300 saved up, if not more.

Years ago, I started looking at money as representing hours of my life. If I made $5 an hour (I said this was a long time ago) an item that cost $10 was going to cost me two hours at work. Two hours of my life that I'll never have back. Was it worth it? That really slowed me down.
For a week, write down everything you buy. I mean everything. It's surprising how those sodas from the convenience store add up. Carry a little note pad in your pocket and write it all down. You will probably find things that you could cut out without feeling any pain. Put that money towards your car payment.
Leave your debit card at home and only carry enough money to meet that days needs. That should help you cut back on impulse buys. If you don't have it, you can't spend it.
Really get into not spending money. Make it a game. The advertisers, the stores are all trying to get you to consume. Can you beat them at their game? How little can you get by on?
Make a budget. Figure out how much you are going to spend . It might help to see it on paper. Stick to the budget.

try to have automatic deposit from your work to your bank.
if you have online banking
have the bank take out the monthly amount for your car payments or they can debit it from your account automatically also.
Have it done on the same day you get your deposit to your bank.
this way the money will be gone before you can even take it out. and because you cannot stop this transaction you will more than likely keep the money in or you could be paying for overlimit fees.
keep smiling diligence is hard work but very much worth the effort
ps ever feel really good about yourself, try having money in the bank. that you don't need, its great

if that doesnt work take whatever you need each paycheck first before you spend anything and give it to a significant oter or parent for safe keeping and when you have to pay the bill take it back
