I have asked my wife to walk on my back to massage and "crack" it, but she thinks she is too heavy. Is it dangerous for a heavier woman to do this? What actual injuries, if any, could really occur? What do you think is the maximum "safe" weight of a woman to walk on the back of a 6', 180lb man?

Listen to these people and go see a chiropractor. The spine surrounds and protects the spinal cord, and the nerve roots exit between the vertebrae. The function of the nervous system is to control and coordinate, directly or indirectly, the function of all cells, tissues, and organs in the body. Don't mess around with having someone walk on your back and go to someone who is trained to deal with your spine.

There isn't a safe weight for anyone to be back walking! The little bone pieces you feel sticking off your back are called spinous processes and they can easily be broken with your own body weight in an inappropiate position. I am employed with a Chiropractor, and my brother broke one of his in the middle of his back when he leaned against a wall! DO NOT let anyone walk on your back- please seek appropiate Chiropractic care. They have had 8 years of schooling to understand the function of the spine and nervous system in relation to the body systems- they are the only one's I would trust with my nerves and bones! Please for the sake of your health- consult a chiropractor soon!

I would say a woman under 250 lbs could walk on your back, she just has to be careful and make sure she steps carefully and doesn't slip. She's not too heavy to do it. You'll feel better afterwards.

regardless of your size, it only takes 5lbs of pressure in the wrong direction to paralyze a person. See a chiropractor! Don't encourage your wife to walk on your back. I had a patient who asked his 5 yr old kid to walk on his back and it injured him pretty bad.
