A while back, I lost my Playstation 2, due to Hurricane Wilma. Now, I'm considering purchasing a new one. Should I wait for the PS3's to become decently priced, or just go out and buy a PS2?

First, sorry about your loss. It's kind of difficult to say. I own a PS2, and am rather turned off by the PS3. So far, there really aren't enough games and features to warrant the $600 you are going to have to spend on the PS3. However, I have the old bulky PS2, and it has of course stopped playing blue-backed CDs entirely. If you are focused on the here and now of things, the best purchase to make would be the slim PSTwo. However, while I may not be happy with the PS3's current game lineup, or many of Sony's decisions for the console, good games will innevitably come sooner or later. So, in the long run, you would probably be better off buying a PS3. Both you and I are probably going to end up buying one at some point anyway, so if you have the money, the PS3 may be the better choice for you. Be warned though that there are some backward-compatibility issues with some games, so if you are planning on being able to play all of your PS2 games on the PS3, it may not work out that way. Anyhow...good luck, and happy gaming, no matter which way you go (Xbox 360 is looking pretty good right now.)

P.S. - If you do go with the PS3, some must have games are Resistance, Oblivion, Virtua Fighter 5, Motor Storm, and later this year Metal Gear Solid 4. Only one of those games is available for the 360 (Oblivion).

sorry about your loss. you should go treat yourself to something nice, say the ps3. i have it and i love it. i play it all the time. i know 600 seems like a lot, but if you break it down what you are getting, its actually quite a bargain. but if you decide the ps2 then thats a great choice as well. i just thought you should upgrade but still be able to play your ps2 games. a lot of people are gonna tell you the ps3 is junk. those people are 360 fanboys who probably never played a ps3 and only seen store demos. you wont be disappointed in the ps3. i love it. good luck with whatever you choose. and if you do get the ps3 and want to play online, look me up dougb3397

A Playstation 2.
1. It costs less then 1/4 the price of a PS3.
2. PS2 works for all PS1 & PS2 games, whereas the PS3 doesn't work with all PS2 games that well.
3. Controllers are cheaper.
4. Everybody has one, making it easier to borrow/lend games.
5. New games will still come out for it until Jan '08.

Buy it, and I suggest FFXII personally, because it's so much fun.

The ps3's price won't go down for a very long time. Probably a while after the next generation machines are released. I would just buy another ps2.

I personally am waiting for the PS3 to drop its price. I heard it might happen this summer due to a upgraded version of the X Box 360(its black and can download videos). Im a hardcore playstation fan so Im staying loyal.

Sorry about the hurricane. I would get the PS3. It can play PS1, 2, and 3 games. The downside is that it costs so much.
