I just installed solar coach lights for my pathway on Sunday. They are "supposed" to be a "bright white", according to the package. They are glowing mosquito zapper blue. They glowed this color for the last 2 nights. Is it b/c they need more days to charge? They came from Walmart. Please advise!

If they are "bright" this is normal. Since they are new I would say the "White" is actually brilliant blue. You can also look at the bulb (you have to take the base off. If the LED is blue-ish when it is off that is your answer. Mine are blue like you..

You can test this (only at night) by putting some alkaline batteries in to see what happens. It should be brighter but will probably still be blue. Don't ever leave alkaline (or any other non-rechargable battery in your lights during the day as they will explode).

LED lights do have a blue tinge to them. It is the type of bulb that it has which are very small in size. I imagine they just call them white because they are so bright. But to our eyes they look blue.

I have a few solar lights that color too. They also make flashlights that way too. That's the LED part of it and supposed to be a brighter light.

Next time, don't get the LED solar lights, get the incandescent solar lights. They will have a softer glow.

Solar lights are a cheap easy fix, that's why you can buy them at Wal-Mart. Some lights achieve the white color, but not for very long. You would be better off with either low-voltage lighting kits or even better off with line voltage (120v). The low voltage requires transformers and are generally made cheaper (cheap easy fix at Menard's or Home Depot). Good line voltage fixtures may require an electrician or qualified DYI'er but absolutely will be worth it. The bulbs are easier to replace, this means the fixtures (barring a mower accident) will last much, much longer. Find an Electrical Wholesaler for options; I've had good luck with "RAB Lighting". You can search there catalog on the Internet and probably find a distributor.
