i saw a similiar post from a year ago and the best answer stated thet Willie was inexperinced and not a good manager. I thought that was a bad answer. Willie was a good manager last year and will do a fine job this year. Is there enogh talent and tools in place to win it all?

No. Their pitching is a major question mark. Glavine is probably in his last year. He needs 10 wins for 300 and he's history. Pedro is a bust. He may never come back. Of course he's not a money pitcher anyway in spite of his gaudy win-loss record.

Win it all? Hmm, I'll go with no, and i'm not saying it cause I'm a Phillies fan.

On paper, they look great at bat. Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Delgado....they all hit well, real well.... and they also field well too esp David Wright. If we're still looking at them on paper Billy Wagner is a bright spot also.... he's a top 5 closer with 100mph stuff.

But now lets look away from the paper and what's on the field.... particularly who'll be standing on the mound. Pedro is out, and not sure when/if he'll return this year. He could come down with a case of the Kerry Wood/Mark Prior cold and just vanish. The rest of their staff isn't bums, but certainly not "winning it all" status either. They have the ability to win "shootout games" because they can hit. Games like 10 -6. But the great teams are the ones who have good pitching too, and can eke out those 3 - 2 nailbiters, when their batters don't hit well that day.

All said, I can see them giving the Phils and Tribe a tough time in the East... maybe making the playoffs. Winning it all, not happening. They'll need a healthy Pedro and at least 1 more above average pitcher to get there!

As a Mets fan, its tough this year.

The lineup can carry the team very far. The starting pitching is a big question mark. I think it comes down to whether the veterans like Tom Glavine and El Dookie combined with the youngsters of Maine, Pelfrey and Perez can be effective enough until when and IF Pedro Martinez comes back and is on top of his game. The NL East I dont see to be very competitive beyond the Phillies. The Braves will be a .500 ball club at best, the Marlins wont do what they did last year and the Nationals are a joke.

If our young pitchers can be good, the Mets can win it all, they dont need to be great, they just cant suck.

The rotation could be a real liability. I say the Phils take the East this season. As for Willie, he's a good enough manager, and the players seem to like and respect him as well.

To win it all? I dont think so. The pitching is lacking so much. There really isnt a ace on the staff. The lineup is amazing but the rotation isn't strong enough to face a American League team in the World Series.

The Mets lack strong enough pitching to go the distance this year as is. A trade will be required at the half way point to make this a viable World Series team.

Yes, thier team has the bats to carry the until after the all-star break. After that they get a healthy Pedro and Suarez back. if the can pick up a little pitching help, i'll guratee the win it all.

Everyone keeps asking this question. The answer is they will be as strong as their bats are who led them to the playoffs last year.

That pitching staff is both old and inexperienced and will fair no better than last year due to the great run support they got.

Yes I think they are they have such a good line up the only thing is Duaner getting hurt again isn't good and Wagner as their closer isn't the greatest either but I think the Mets will win it all.
