The traditional march you're thinking of is probably "Entry of (or "March of) the Gladiators", an old pop classic that's been connected with circuses for at least a century---check out a major music seller like Amazon for CDs of circus music for more varieties of popular big-top traditional tunes, including dramatic & suspenseful ones.
