I NEED HELP QUICK PLEASE PEOPLE... here is the poem rat, o rat by christopher logue

Rat, O Rat ...

Never in all my life have I seen
as handsome a rat as you.
Thank you for noticing my potatoes.

O Rat, I am not rich.
I left you a note concerning my potatoes,
but I see that I placed it too high
and you could not read it.

O Rat, dog;
my wife and I are cursed
with the possession of a large and hungry dog;
it worries us that he might learn your name —
which is forever on our lips.

O Rat, consider my neighbor;
he has eight children (all of them older
and more intelligent than mine)
and if you lived in his house, Rat,

ten good Christians
(if we include his wife)
would sing your praises nightly,
whereas in my house there are only five.

I have to talk about it TOMORROW. say what its all about and theres nothing on the internet, i will be picking best answer tonight, so please tell me what you think? THANKS =]

this poem leads a lot for interpetation.
I would start with metaphores.
what is a rat, they are sacavangers, they are lowly creatueres,

So is Lucifer, who can be very suductive,
why I'm going this way is vbecause of the end of the poem.

"ten good christians"

the poem seems to me, to be talikng about the corrupt nature if religion, how evil, ( and ugly diiseased rat) can look so suductive, although we know it's evil.

The Dog, would symbolize GOD running the evil away, or a purity to cleanse your mind,
but people would view it as cursed, because the bottom line of the poem, NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS!

It could mean a few things. It seems to me to reflect a communication policy to try to create a feeling of "trust" in persuading some nasty person or creature to partake themselves elsewhere by convincing that as being in their best interests rather than yours?. But doing so within a framework of not causing offence to the unwanted, because to make them aware you want them to go could motivate them to stay with you either because they do not trust you, or because they like making you unhappy for not liking them.

the grass is always greener on the other side. with a few threats and a promise of more riches. the rat will go to the neighbours. but wait; he will come back and hound you. and then you will be all mashed up.
