Technically there are 2 types of USB 1.1 cables around, the commonly used is STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) which can go as far as 5 meters (16.4 ft). The other type is the Unshielded Twisted Pair cable (UTP) and is used only for sub-channel applications. the maximum distance would be 1.5 meter (5 ft). longer distances need extensions which can lengthen it up to 35 meters (115 ft).

if you are talking about wireless -- its hard to tell. Depends if there is aything infront of the device like maybe a chair or a wall. I would just try it for yourself to see how far you can go.
