"There were numerous reasons to remove Saddam — 23, according to the Congress that authorized the war — but the administration privileged just one, the sensible fear of weapons of mass destruction. That was legitimate and understandable, and would prove effective so long as either a postwar weapons-trove turned up or the war and its aftermath finished without a hitch.
Unfortunately neither proved to be the case. So with that prime rationale discredited, the partisan Congress suddenly reinvented itself in protesting that it had really voted for war on only one cause, not 23. And when the news and evidence both went bad, that lone reason was now pronounced null and void and hardly a basis for war."

No one is doubting Saddam Hussein was a bad character. The thing is that the reason given for going to war with him was WMD and a supposed inferred connection to the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 is a big lie. As long as the other 21 reasons did not directly affect us at the time than we had no reason to launch an unprovoked attack on another soverign nation. No matter how bad it's leader was.
The real culprit, meanwhile, is still on the loose and laughing his fanny off because he is able to take it on the lam and be safe in Tora Bora or other parts of the mountains between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Could it be that the Iraq war is meant to take emphasis off OBL a buddy and business partner to GWB?

They don't really focus on the WMD issue. They simply use that word in their argument to get your attention to the fact that this Admin manipulated, fabricated and lied about the intelligenece to declare the Iraq war for their own selfish and personal benefits (follow the money) and sacrificed over 3000 soldiers and over 1/2 million Iraqi lives. And, the reason they declared the war is precisely because they were 100% sure that there were NO WMDs. You must remember that Republicans are very weak and cowards. They will never declare a war on strong and WMD countries like North Korea and our REAL enemy Pakistan. But, they will definitely go after some helpless and weak country like Iraq because they are guaranteed to win. They also don't go after Bin Laden because he is a family friend.

Yes there were other reasons, but WMDs is the excuse that was used, in the American press, at the UN, and in the Pentagon.
And since there was no evidence of WMDs (UN Inspections), it calls into question the entire real rationale for invading a sovereign nation and toppling a government.

Did not the Bush, Cheney, Rumsfelt and Powell all stated that Iraq was source of WMD and were sold this bill of goods to go to war? Just like we were told Iraq was behind 9-11!

Because that was the original premise of this mess that the Bush administration created. They swore up and down that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and the means to make more, which as we all know turned out to be a big fat republican lie!
Perhaps you should pick up the newspaper and listen to other news sources sometimes besides Fox News.

Ummmm..... because that was indisputably the keystone of the Bush "Let's All Go To War" push.
And because Neo-Cons trotted out WMD's every 3 minutes in the beginning to justify going to war.

What exactly were those 22 other reasons. All I heard repeated over and over and over again was that Iraq had WMDs and that they were a threat to us. Any other reason for being there would be wholly unethical, which, ironically, turned out to be the case.

The same reason Atheists rely on "there is no god because they have never seen him" rules.
Its something they known will never be shown which gives them a lifetime excuse to pull out in an argument when they're losing.
