if you travel a lot, get a laptop. Get a desktop if you plan to stay local or get a college dorm.

Unless you are a real gamer or some other type of computer geek, all you need is a basic setup. Todays laptop and desktop pc's are just about the same, as far as performance goes (speed and graphics) Only with the laptop, you pay more for the portability. So, if you just want to use it for regular stuff (video, music, term-papers, IM) just get a laptop. If you want it to feel like a desk top, find one and set it on top. Mac or PC is another issue. Peace.

A desktop is far more powerful than a laptop.

A lap top is portable.

Whats better, a hammer or a saw?

Anyway, if you're planning on playing the latest high-tech games, encoding dvd video formats, rendering 3D model images, or mastering music tracks, use a desktop to make those operations run faster.

Otherwise, a laptop is portable and capable of doing anything you want to do. (the above listed would obviously be a lot slower)

Before USB came along, it was usual to have a desktop PC because it could be expanded more easily, but with a USB hub you can connect all sorts of things, though a desktop has a slight advantage if there's a screen problem, just plug in another screen (whereas you'd have to send off the whole laptop for a repair, and it's not likely to be cheap, either!)

Portability is one "plus" of a laptop, but it also makes them a target for thieves, as you can find all sorts of people with a laptop on their shoulder (but you won't see many wander off down the street with a desktop or mini-tower PC, and not be noticed, will you).

You should get a laptop. It's better than a desktop because it's portable, easier to use, and takes up less space. With a desktop, you have to connect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, bla bla bla. A laptop makes everything easier. If you want to get a laptop, choose a model from Toshiba. They now come with Windows Vista.

Depends what you want it for! if you need to take it places with you, get a lap top, if not, a desk top.

depends on what you want. Good games, movies, sound etc? A desktop. Mobility and looking cool on the train? Laptop. But that's basically all i know. In my ICT coursework we had to find the difference between desktops & laptops.... That was so much fun... not. Oh & you can upgrade desktops but not laptops because there's room on the big one but not in laptops. I hope that helps.
