I know it may vary from film to film but how long does it usually take before they are available to rent NOT to buy ? I am referring to UK only, thanks ! (The film in question if it matters is 'Becoming Jane' starring Anne Hathaway and James (drool) Mcavoy).

It generally takes 3 months for a normal movie to go to video. Although it can be much faster, movie producers want the public to see it in the theaters versus renting, which is where all there revenue comes from. What makes this formula not work is when the movie is an Oscar contender. Sometimes they will release a movie that is in the rental section because they think people will want to see the movie after the hype. A good example of these situations are" Million Dollar Baby."
In the future downloads to your computer should be immediate but again, movie theater owners are trying to prevent that. Why would you go to the theaters (pay $12) if you can download for free? Good luck

it really depends on how successful the film is at the box office.

The more successful, the longer it takes for rental availability. If the movie is a flop at the box office, it is generally available about a month after cinema release.
