The majority of Americans are 'conservative'.
From the results of the last elections the 30% you are talking about managed to get an education, i.e. they voted Democrat. I have some more bad news for you. = 2008.
The majority of Americans are finally looking around them, and they don't like what they see.

Because true conservatives are considered liberal these days. The President is not a conservative, he is a neoconservative. And conservatives are ashamed of people like that.
