Yes, the ignorance irritates me too.
It is NOT that isolated, and lots of people DO travel there.
A friend of mine was once asked if he spoke "African".
It is just plain ignorance.

Well, Africa IS a continent, but it is very isolated from the western world and not many people travel there, so they don't know much about it, nor do they know any of the difference between the countries. But you have to admit that some of the borders do not reflect the cultures. For example, West Africa is very much all the same, not much difference between Togo and Liberia except in terms of politics.
But yeah, people should become more educated about the rest of the world before they talk about it''s politics.

Ignorance, plus The America's are a continent, but we refer to the US as a country. I guess it just kinds sticks when we are referring to other continents. Force of habit.

They may be just talking about the whole place and don't have enough breath to list all those contries. I know I sure can't redicate them all with out a extra breath. This is just a idea.
