I have never heard anthing about not giving citrus. You should not give too much though, and water down juice. It can burn their bum when they poop.... And it is ok to wait on solids till up to 8 mo......

You should not give babies any citrus products until at least 9 months old and possibly 1 yrs old. Their digestive system is still developing during the first year and can not handle the acids in some foods. My pediatrician said there is a bacteria in citrus that can cause infections in babies intestines since they are not fully developed yet. This is the feeding schedule I used with my children.
1 to 2 months - cereal mixed with formula. Only plain cereals. Bananas and other flavored can hurt the stomach.
4 months - soft fruit babyfood such as applesauce or peaches. Sometimes mixing the babyfood with the cereal for a better taste.
5 to 6 months - add other fruits and puddings (babyfood not regular pudding), add vegetables like peas, green beans, squash and carrots. Still sometimes mixing with cereal and formula.
7 to 8 months - slowly introduce other vegetables
9 months - Banana babyfood, other juices (orange juice but see if the baby gets a tummy ache afterward. if so wait a while before giving more). Some soft meat babyfood.
By 1 yrs they should be able to eat most any type of babyfood or soft table foods. Foods that you should not give the baby until they are 3 or 4 years old are popcorn and peanuts, weiners or vienna sausages. they tend to get these lodged in their throats.

The acid in citrus fruits and juices can be very hard on the stomachs of babies under a year old. It is generally recommended to wait until after 12 months to introduce these. Guidelines suggested by many pediatric groups say to feed only breast milk and/or formula to babies under 6 months. As with all guidelines, not all babies fit into them. Some babies are ready for solids between 4-6 months. Other babies aren't ready until 7-9 months. Each baby is different in his/her needs. My youngest daughter was exclusively breast fed until a week before she was 7 months. She ate a small amount of infant rice cereal every day for about a month then showed a great deal of interest in what the rest of the family was eating. By 9 months she was eating nearly everything we ate and basically skipped baby foods. I nursed her until she weaned herself at 14 months. She is 9 now and very healthy. Depending on your baby and her readiness, 7 months to begin solids may be just right and perfectly normal for her. Signs she is ready for solids are being able to hold her head steady, has lost her natural "tongue-thrust" reflex, shows interest when others are eating such as opening mouth when food goes by or reaching for what others are eating. There is no reason to rush into introducing solids.

You can start with solids when ever.
there is no old or young age, if he is able to swallow then great if not then hes not quite ready yet all baby's are different.
and citrus gives baby's little bumps on their skin. because the stomach isn't fully developed yet. lemons and oranges are high in acidity. and the stomach cant handle the hard stuff yet.
Hope I was of Help ^-^

I think the acid in citrus fruit is hard on babys tummies, but there is plenty of other fruit available.
WHO recommend 6 months but it is accepted that most babies are interested in trying new things between 4-6 month. Hence 4-6 months is a good time to start small tasting sessions.

My son is 15 months and still can't tolerate citrus. He gets diarhea from it.
And 7 months sounds about right. My son started at about 8 months. Many parents start entirely too early these days.
The child should be able to sit on thier own and reach for their food and feed themselves. The longer you wait, the less risk youre taking when it comes to food allergies and digestive issues.
Why would you feed a child food who has no interest in food yet? Milk is PLENTY for at least the first year... solids are just for fun and practice.
What do you think they did before food grinders? Did thier babies starve because they couldnt puree food for them? Maybe babies are fine with milk alone until a year or longer. Read your child.

Solids: My daughter was eating solids once she had teeth (4 months). As long as it is cut up and easy for them to eat, you're okay.
Citrus: I've never heard of that, and my daughter did citrus young (especially oranges - her favorite) and she is fine.
It'd be best to ask your doctor - afterall, I don't have a PhD.

I think it's a little too old. I started my son just for kicks at 3 months with apple sauce and by 4 months he was eating mashed potato and gravy. And I used one of those netted feeding helpers and also gave him orange which he loved and still loves. I also gave him a slice of lemon to see his face at 6 months and he cried when I took it away.
When it comes to your baby use your own judgment, not just what books and other people say. Think of how you were raise and your mother.

i had thought that about citrus, also.my 11 mon. old has not had oranges yet. i was worrying about it being a choking hazard also, though. my 2 daughters started solid food at 4 months. the average age is 4-6 months. i guess it depends on what your dr. says.

My baby did not have anything except breast milk and or formula until he was 8 months old, then only baby food for another 3-4 months. No Adult food / solid food until he was 12 months old, but that could only be me? But he is a perfectly happy 13 month old boy now, and definetly not under fed.

Some Dr's claim that if you wait longer to give solid foods, it cuts down on any allergies they may have. I raised three kids and fed them solid food at 3 months and none of them have any allergies. No I would give citrus fruits til they are older.
