My family may be relocating to the St. Louis area and I have a 5 year old that is hard of hearing. I am looking for any information on programs in the area with a total communication emphasis.

You'll get real good answers at http://www.alldeaf.com It's a very good deaf forum, very active with thousands of members. There's a category on education. There's not many deaf people on Y!A.

I had a friend that went to C.I.D. (Central Institute for the Deaf)in St. Louis http://www.cid.edu/

Hope that helps!

You said your child is hard of hearing, so you might look into two of the best, oral schools for the hearing impaired, with world wide reputations!
Central Institute for the Deaf is a major research center and are world leaders in oral education and St Joseph's school for the Deaf - catholic school
I got my master's at CID..but now I teach total communication in the public school, so I can understand if you don't want to go the oral route. In that case, I would look into districts which have more $ such as the ones in the county.I've been out of the area a while, so will have to look it up and I will ask some friends back there too and write here again!

St. Louis is a very oral town, I don't know of and schools (if you want residential) that offer TC. I believe that the Missouri school for the deaf is an ASL/English Bilingual Education program...this may also be a good option for your child. Contact the local school districts and ask them what kind of services they can provide your your kiddo.

CID and St. Joseph's Institute for the Deaf are both excellent. I had a friend with very limited hearing who went to St. Joe's from k-3 and then went to public school. They did a terrific job preparing her.

Good luck on you move.
