My league is a tad different that most. It's a head to head league and each category is weighed. For example, Steals aren't worth quite as much as Home Runs so speedsters who don't hit homers are of less overall value. So having said that whom do I select third assuming Pujols is gone.

Players I am considering:
A-Rod
J. Santana
R. Howard
J. Reyes
C. Utley
A. Soriano
Vladamir G.
What do you think I should do?

Definitely not Santana. He's the only pitcher worth taking in the first round, but not ahead of some of the others you listed. You can also get a great pitcher in later rounds.

A-Rod is a safe choice. His "off-year" is a career year for most players. Howard and Guerrero are good for homers and average. Reyes and Soriano would give you steals, but Soriano has more power. Utley has a good combination of skills, but he's not the third best player in fantasy.

If it was me, I'd take Rodriguez. If he's taken 2nd, then go with Soriano.

Soriano, A-Rod, or Howard.

Reason: Soriano is the best power-speed combo. A-Rod is the least risky - even his off-year isn't that bad. Howard has the best power - if speedsters are not as valuable then take him.

Why not others: Santana is great, but pitchers are riskier than hitters. Especially in H2H leagues - SP's week-to-week contribution is very volatile, say 2 wins in two starts in one week, but only one start for another few weeks. His stats are not as well ultilized as a hitter's.

As for Utley - he's the best 2B. But for the no. 3 pick you can get much better production in someone like Soriano. Passing up a good OF in favor of filling a weak position (2B) is often too much of a sacrifice in the first round. Just go for the best and safest player.

In a format like that, I would select Chase Utley. In roto, Santana is great and worthy of that pick, but I don't think he's as valuable in H2H. Utley is already much better than the other 2nd basemen, and probably more in your league with 30 HR potential from the middle. Soriano is a great player, but his BA is not great. With the #3 pick, you should get a 5 category guy. Utley is at the shallowest position and gives you BA, RBI, R, SB, and HR.

If SBs aren't weighed too much, I'd go either A-Rod or Howard. I personally stay away from a pitcher first round as you don't need a team of aces to win a league. Not to mention you'd have your first pick playing every 5 or so days if you got a pitcher. Though Johan does have superb stats over other pitchers, I'd much rather have a hitter than him...unless he dropped to the last or second to last pick as you still get a decent hitter in the second round. Good pitchers aren't too hard to come by, but good closers...that's hard to come by. Your closer gets rocked, his ERA will shoot up and lose points do to the BS.

#1 - Forget taking a pitcher

Soriano would be great, however I like to go with a position that is thin, like 2nd base. I'd go with Utley, he's an all around hitter, average and decent power, esecially for a 2nd baseman. He's going to be hitting in front of Howard so he'll get his cuts and he'll even put up a few steals, more than Howard and about the same as A-Rod. It will be easier to make up Soriano's stats with a Damon or Ordonez than trying to make up Utley's with a Barfield or Iguchi

they're going to seize which-ever long isn't chosen first. A franchise DE or LT is an incredible commencing ingredient. in spite of the undeniable fact that they may be extra suitable served paying for and merchandising out of that spot. i do no longer think of Ryan is extra suitable than what may be available with the third p.c... Plus they ought to be able to p.c.. up an excellent QB in the different rounds to advance. Or they might lose their collective ideas and draft McFadden. Anyhthing is achieveable at this ingredient.

I would get Reyes, if possible. He will help you in every category, including steals, which he had 64 of last year. He is the most complete player in fantasy.
