In grade school I got one dollar a week, which was a lot for a little kid in 1977 through '80. I spent it all at the neighborhood store on candy and soda (which my mom wouldn't buy).

In middle school I had to do extra chores to earn money, usually fifty cents to two bucks, depending on how hard it was to do. I spent most of that on admission and snacks at the roller dome, though I did save up for some thirty dollar Nikes my mom wouldn't buy. (That was a lot then.)

In high school my parents provided food and shelter, and I worked full time nights and weekends for anything else I wanted. At the time I whined a lot about "other kids" whose parents gave them designer clothes and video games, but now I'm grateful for the life lessons they taught me. (Especially now that I work with some high school kids who are handed expensive toys, cell phones, even cars, and learn materialism and greed, and nothing of self-sufficiency and pride.)

I NEVER got an allowance.
When I went to boarding school, my dad would put money in my account every month but that's just because I was away at school. I think I got maybe $200-300/ month (maybe less).
