Got my engagement party on Thursday, tryed my make up out the other night. Decided to be brave and apply eye pencil I really liked it. But it doesn't seem to stay on, it goes all blotchy and I get parts where it comes off.

Which brand did you use?
If you used a drugstore brand (ie wet n wild, maybelline, etc) I'm not surprised.
it may seem too much to pay $18- $25 for an eyeliner at a department store, but it's worth it. i use Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof mechanical eyeliner in black, it's the best, it won't come off, and it has a smudger on the end if you're going for a smokey-eyed look. mechanical eyeliners work and look like a pencil, but sharpen themselves. if you want to try out a liquid eyeliner, go for Estee Lauder liquid in black, it's really great and doesn't flake off.
if you must use a drugstore, get Covergirl Perfect Point Plus, its the best one i know of but if i recall correctly it still smudges. Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof is the best eyeliner I've ever had, and even though its $23 you'll spend a lot less if you buy one expensive eyeliner and buy it again only when it runs out than if you keep running back to the drugstore after a few applications of another crappy $6 one thinking that "this new one" will work.
make sure your eyes are completely dry when you apply eyeliner, and if they start to water, stop and wait for the tearing to subside or else it'll smudge more. and if you just can't get eyeliner to work for you always wear mascara. (i'd suggest Diorshow mascara from department store or Covergirl lash exact from drugstore)
sorry if that was too much! make-up is my passion! :D

Apply your liner first. Hold the corners of your eyes like your making "chinese eyes" sorry for the analogy, and draw your liner on. Then thin the line or get rid of overdrawn sections with a q-tip lightly dipped in makeup remover liquid or cream. Run the q-tip as close as you can to the line but not right overtop unless you want to get rid of it all.

You can also go to your local cosmetics isle and ask the staff what the best "no-smudge" line is that they would recommend. Ive found Revlon and even the cheap "annabelle" Brand to stay the best.

And if you want to go the extra mile, try applying a make up primer spray before you do your makeup. It will help hold everything in place.

Good luck, and congrats on the engagement. I hope it all works out!

depending on your complexion(oily, norm, or dry) alot of it would have to do with the type of pencil you are using. i have been using makeup since i was a young child (i was in competitive dance:ballet, tap, acro, and hiphop) best thing to do is to use the other hand that is not holding the pencil and tighten the eyelid(by laying your hand flat just below your temple and move it outwards) and keep the pencil as close to the lash line and make sure the pencil is never dull...
if you have the habit of rubbing your eyes.. get out of it and try to get comfortable with it.. if you apply it on the lower lid of your eye(i love it there) pull down ward on the upper cheak... then pencil on the ridge of the lid...
this should help you out....
and congrats on engagement!

use mary kay eye primer first then use black eye shadow (get it wet first) and apply w/ a very fine small brush, as if you were appling pencil eyeliner (its how all the stars get such awesome detail!) Go to Barnes and Noble and check out a beauty book, like one by Bobbi Brown, they will give you all the steps too! Plus other great looks for your face shape and hair cut.

Fix it in place with a similar colour of eyeshadow dabbed on very finely along same line. Loose face powder or even baby talcum powder will work, apply with a very fine brush or cotton bud, wipe away excess and don't let it fall on your lashes.

I use vicent longo for undereye concealer. it's really creamy, not greasy. about the mascara, here is what i do. My eye lashes point down so i have double protection. first, after i put on undereye concealer, i put some clear powder on. i recommend bare escentuals mineral veil. second, since i hate waterproof mascara(they don't wash out easily and are usually heavy), i put one coat of clear mascara on top of the dark mascara (do it after the dark mascara is semi-dry). the clear coat prevent rub off, and the clear powder is just a safe guard. i have never had a rub off after i done that.

Also make sure it is sharpened properly. Uneven edges can make it drag on the eye and leaves bits.

I actually find that warming it up slightly can help for a thicker line, doenst blotch tho.

Rimmel - Jet Black, the best one ever !!
