Think of equalizers as narrow band tone controls. In many equipment you can only adjust treble (high) and bass (low) frequencies. With EQ you can adjust different frequency bands - high, middle and low to suit your personal tastes. Many mp3 players also come with several EQs already preset. (Jazz,
Rock, Pop, Classic, etc)

An equalizer is a device within the player that allowes you to change the relative amplitudes of various frequency bands to suit your personal taste as well as to correct the flawed recordings of the songs. Typically, you will have a three segment equalizer (Bass, Mid & Treble) which corresspond to Lower Frequencies (Like drums, bass guitar) , Mid ( Voice , Violin Synch Guitar) and Uper range ( Cymbals, Uper range of pianos, guitar & voice). respectively
These days all devices & MP3 players have Digital equalizer that is set with the usual up/down controls througha Menu selection.
It depends on the player brand. But most of these China / taiwan made have similar / identical chips and displays.

How to use?

Put the player is music mode & start playing your fav title.
then Press the menu button. A number of options will be displayed. One of them is equalizer. Scroll to that using Arrow keys ( used for changing songs when in player mode)

Press menu again. Another sub set of menu with options like Rock, Pop, Classical , soft will appear. Click the one that appeals to you while listening to the song. Press menu button again. You are back to Main Player screen with new Equalizer settings.
