True labor contractions that result in birth get longer stronger and closer together. That is why the doc told you to wait until they are 10-15 apart. That would mean that the contractions are closing in and at that point you will likely have an established labor pattern. I thought maybe Sunday was my day, I had deep deep contractions and they lasted the right amount of time, but they never got closer together. And I have been walking around for 5 days ( since last doc visit) at 2 cm and 70%. Was hoping but it didn't happen. Just do what your doc said and make sure that they start closing the time gap before you go in.

Don't worry! I went into L&D quit a few times before the big event. They usually just hydrated me and sent me home. But I felt much better! And if those are not contractions, then it is somthing that needs to be checked! Oh, and nobody will make you feel dumb! It sounds like real labor anyways! Good Luck! How Exciting!!!! Make sure to bring a bag, and baby stuff! (Just leave it in the car if you don't want to feel dumb about it) :)

I work in labor and delivery, and believe me, it happens all the time! Nobody will look down on you for going in to get checked. The true definition of labor is cervical change, and it's not like you can assess yourself for that. Also, it's your doctor who told you to go in, so you can just blame her if it makes you feel better :-) Not like anyone can fault you for following your doctor's recommendations. We usually tell people to wait until contractions are about 5 minutes apart if it's their first baby, but if your doctor said to go when they are 10-15 mins apart, I would definetely do what she said, as only she knows your personal situation.

Yes that's happened to me with both my pregnancies and with my second baby I was in a lot of pain went to my doctor and was only 3-4 cm dilated and the contractions I thought were so strong were early labor contractions.

If the cramping is at regular intervals, (time them) and they are becoming closer together, then it's labor. Cramps dont time themselves like that.
Also, women go in every day that are not fully in labor-- dont be embarassed its nothing new. At 38 weeks you're full term and could very well be having the baby today. Good luck and congrats!

Don't feel stupid, it happens all of the time.
Better safe than sorry.
My first child was born in May, my first visit to the hospital
thinking I was in labor was in March.
My second child was born in January, I went to the hospital, this time knowing I was in labor and they wanted to send me back home, I told them no way I'm ready to have this baby, they said no the monitors say different, I delivered 90 minutes later to everyone's suprise.
If you feel something your not quite sure of, GO.
Good Luck !!!

I was sent home in early labor, but not because I wasn't contracting. They gave me a shot in my butt to stop the contractions and I was on my way. You probably won't be sent home, I think what you are feeling is contractions and they are even so maybe today, baby?

I have. Most have.
With my 1st, I thought I was leaking fluid. Went in, they did a check, said I wasnt, sent me home. When I went to the bathroom on my way out, my water totally broke. So very glad I went in - plus that was at 33w. Go in, dont risk it.
You'll have so many more parenting events in your life to feel stupid about :) I frequently walk around with snot on my shirt!

I was actually having contractions and refused to go for that reason! Someone convinced me to go and I am glad I went when I did or my first born would have been born on my bathroom floor. Listen to your doctor it is better to be safe then sorry!
