As long as you are a woman of childbearing age, they will ask you this question. The reason is that many medications can cause birth defects in the unborn baby. It's annoying but it is one of those precautions that we have to take. Don't take it personally, they ask every other woman in the office the same thing.

Honey even if you are on birth control and using condoms then there is still a chance of you becoming pregnant.. Besides the doctors have to ask if there is a chance of you being pregnant when prescribing certain medicine do to the chance of it causing birth defects.. Take a pregnancy test just to be certain before starting any medicine that could be harmful.. Best of Luck to you.. I am sure it is nothing more then a doctor making sure the medicine she/he prescribed doesnt cause any harm..

I had this same thing happen to me one time when I had a bladder infection. Except my doctor wouldn't give me the prescription unless I took a pregnancy test right there in the office!! I guess it was my own fault because when he asked "could you be pregnant" I answered "well, I mean...I guess I COULD be" lol stupid answer!
Anyway, take a test to put your mind at ease :) I am sure everything is fine.

Say you were pregnant and the medication that they gave you caused you to lose the baby. Then you could sue them for not asking if you were pregnant before giving you the medication. The hospital is just covering there buts. I got asked if I may be pregnant a month after I gave birth at a doctors appointment. I wouldn't take it personal.

The medication the Doctor is prescribing for your allergies is probably not recommended for women who are pregnant. She is only asking you because she would prescribe you a different medication in a lesser dosage, or none at all if you were pregnant. It's a standard question doctors ask of all women when they are prescribing medication, not just you.

They were asking you because some medications are not recommended for pregnant women. If you are having sex and have missed a period- take a test.

That is a normal question when a perscription is given to make sure that you aren't and forgot to tell them. If you don't think you are then don't worry about it. If you had a normal last period. If you think you are take the test. Also some perscriptions can give false positives.

I think the doctor was just asking because it's a drug that may be harmful to an unborn child. Same as they ask you when you go for a piercing or tattoo, it's just a precautionary question.

The only way that there is no way you are pregnant is if you didn't have a sex. If you had sex and used protection then there is a chance you could be.

If you have any doubt in you at all, it might be a good idea to take the test, even if it is just for your peace of mind.
