Fantasy is one of my favorite genres and I usually get cuaght by whoever is shiny and new writing (Gregory McGuire, Jaquine Carrey, etc) but I alway return to Tolkien and CS Lewis every so often....

Jacqueline Carey for the time being. Her Kushiel's Dart saga is worth reading, as well as their weight in gold.
