That's like asking "Are teachers good role models?...or Are bus drivers good roles models?" ...or plumbers, or accountants

Professional athletes - this is their OCCUPATION and based solely on that one cannot make a judgement as to whether they are or are not good role models.

Now - are they looked up to by kids? [particularly the stars].
Are they mimicked? Do a lot of kids want to be like them?etc etc etc

YES - therefore they are in the public eye and young folk are impressionable; therefore I believe they should 'walk the walk' of a good role model.

Not so much....at least not the professional ones. When I was growing up, athletes used to be these great, humble, model citizens who little kids could genuinely admire.
Today, they are sex-crazed, drug-dealing, wife-beating ego maniacs who don't seserve their multi-million dollar paychecks.
Granted, I know that not ALL the athletes of yesteryear were angels, and I know that not ALL the present ones are devils, but comparatively speaking today's athletes are not good role models.

College athletes, on the other hand can sometimes be seen as good role models.

Some are, although I don't really follow sports. Instead I'm going off some interviews I've seen on 60 Minutes.

So I would say that Tiger Woods is a good role model.

No many sports players have said that its not a good isea, because everyone makes mistakes, so if your child looks up to them, they will end up making the same mistake. However if a child wants to look up to an athlete, look up to him for what he does on the field or court and not off the field or court.

only if you want to be an athlete. your role model should be whomever you'd like to emulate when older. i.e. your dad, mom, or george w. bush (kidding).

They could be it just depends on if that's what you want to be. An athlete, think to yourself do I want to be an athlete? and then you decide.

Most of them fall into the "okay" category...but like my parents said, no living person should be anyone's moral compass...all people will fail in some manner...
