I am 32 weeks 3 days pregnant and have been on procardia every 4 hours for about 9 days now.(10mg) I've been looking up some info on it today (just got out of hospital yesterday) and found out it is class C drug. I am VERY upset right now that the hospital did not tell me this before I started taking it. I have had all my steroid treatments for my baby and they say he will be fine if he is born now. They are trying to postpone my labor for about 2 more weeks just to be a little safer. But is the procardia more dangerous for my baby or being born at 33 weeks?

I have an 8 month old and I was on procardia after 32 weeks for severe preeclampsia. My baby was born at 38 weeks with no difficulties what so ever. I wouldn't be worried about the effect the drug has on you and your baby. I would trust them enough to know they wouldn't put you on something that wasn't backed up by some sort of evidence. I'd say the danger of your baby being born at 33 weeks is riskier than taking the procardia, just relax and take care of you AND baby!! :)

Yes it is safe. I was on it from 27 weeks to 36 weeks. My daughter is perfectly healthy. The side effects affect you more that the baby. It causes dizziness and memory loss. But other than that it was fine. A baby born before 36 weeks could still have under developed lungs reguardless of the steriods. Also hearing problems and bowel problems. Not everything is completely developed and it will stop developing after baby is born and the only way to fix it is surgery and more drugs.

I was on that when I was pregnant. I didn't like the thought of it either, but my son turned out fine! I know it is scary, but they give it to pregnant women all the time. at 32 wks, I think it is much safer to take the meds than to have the baby..... Good luck!
