I think if you have the urge do it. Some of the stuff you will be using until then (robe etc.) you could buy extra of the basics deodorant those things. Tucks hemorrhoid pads are a life saver if you have an episiotamy and the hospital only gives you so many. They are very soothing on the cut. Also overnight pads, the hospital provides them but at our hospital they did not have adhesive on them so they never stayed in place. The baby a few diapers (the hospital provides them but just in case) wipes (some hospitals use washcloths and I dont like that) and a couple outfits. For your husband maybe only snacks, my husband had skipped lunch and we left for the hospital as soon as he got home and our daughter wasn't born until almost midnight. And he did not complain but I know he was hungry. Congratulations!
Oh also I would buy underware you dont want to keep, you bleed heavily after a baby, and there is no way to keep it off of them, so dont take your pretty ones. Sorry that sounds gross but it is true.

I just had my first a month ago and I really didn't use anything in my bag! I packed a nursing bra, panties, a change of clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and my razor and makeup and all kinds of stuff.
The hospital supplies you with shampoo and conditioner and soap when you take your shower and they have the mesh panties that you will actually want to wear.
I needed my toothbrush and toothpaste....and they would have given me that too, but mine was out already. My bag got opened a couple hours before we left the hospital. I changed into my clothes and brushed my hair. (never had time to put makeup on) and left.
For my baby we had a couple different outfits and all of them were too big for him. If you can find a newborn outfit that is small enough, I would get it! I hated taking him home in something that swallowed him. All of his clothes are still too big! But I had a one piece footed sleeper and a hat and he was fine. And a car seat and blanket to put over him.
The hospital will have everything you need while you are there. They also supply diapers and a shirt for baby. Take an extra bag with you, because they give you a bunch of stuff while you are there.
When we left the hospital we got a Similac diaper bag, 2 40 packs of diapers, alcohol wipes, maternity pads, mesh undies, towelettes, dermoplast (for episiotomy, that stuff is awesome!) Tucks pads, and so much more.
I let my husband pack his own bag.......bad idea. If he is planning on staying with you, he will need his toothbrush and toiletries and something to sleep in and a pillow and clothes to change into. AND FOOD!!!! My husband was starving the whole time.
I think that is most of it. Maybe a book to read or something. I didn't have time for anything. I hope you do!!!
Good luck and congrats!
ADDED: NO ONE TELLS YOU THIS BUT, YOUR HIPS MIGHT WIDEN, AND YOUR PANTS WONT FIT! I TRIED TO WEAR MY PANTS I WORE FROM 5-8 MONTHS AND THEY WERE REALLY TIGHT!

Hi there! It is so exciting packing for the hospital. Here's what I plan on packing this time. For the baby, not much, an outfit for pictures, baby book, a pacifier (even if you plan to breastfeed, everyone will say don't though) and have the car seat installed and ready. For myself, deodorant, toothbrush and paste, makeup, nightgown and robe, two pair of underwear, extra bra (nursing if you are nursing), hair ties, and if you want to style your hair all that stuff. You may want to bring a lightly scented body wash, if you get the chance to take a shower and hand lotion. Phone numbers, even ones you know and insurance information. A camera, and video camera. Clothes to wear home, something very comfy. :) For your husband, whatever he would want to get through the long part of labor. It could take a while. Oh, and I'd pack your favorite snacks and soda pop or whatever you really like. :) Change for the vending machines too! I am 28 weeks pregnant with my third baby. :) Best of luck, you'll most likely be overly prepared than not enough. And what they call your wanting to be ready is called "nesting" it's very normal.

Well, you'll get a lot of stuff you'll need from the hospital for the baby. Try not to pack too many items or your pour husband will have to make several trips to the car when you're about to leave LOL.
These are the things I found I needed:
A going home outfit for me and the baby
Hard candy or suckers (you can suck on these while in labor...it's kind of nice to have a taste of SOMETHING other than ice LOL)
Any toiletries for yourself and hubby
Slippers (for shuffling to and from the bathroom)
Reading materials (I was in labor for 13 hours and my trashy gossip magazines came in handy)
Cards or any other game (that helped pass the time for us, too)
List of contacts (for your husband to use when the baby is born)
A recieving blanket for the baby to go home with (if the weather isn't warm)
Chap stick
If you want to pack a nightgown, that would be fine, too. But I just wore the hospital robe most of the time. Don't bring Jammies with pants because they'll be 'checking' you often...it'll be a pain to take them off and on.
I didn't need to pack anything for hubby...we live 5 min from the hospital, so he was able to go home to shower and all that.
BEST of LUCK with your labor and delivery!! It won't be long now!

Don't worry about too much for the baby. A nice outfit to come home in. The hospital will provide everything while you're there. If you have a favorite pillow, bring it. I remember the hospital ones being about an inch thick. Oh, and get a boppy. They're those c-shaped pillows nursing mothers use to support the baby. Even if you don't plan to nurse, they really ease the strain on your shoulders and back when holding the baby. My husband loved ours.

Many feel you dont need anything but a few diapers if your hospital doesnt give you the first bag, ours did. Same with formula, just check with them.......
A change of clothes for you to wear home, and an outfit for the baby. You wont be there long I wasnt even there 24 hours.
Socks & panties for me.
You can take a robe and slippers if you want. I was never there long enough to even want these things.
I just dont see a reason to haul a bunch of stuff you just have to haul home in a few hours....... I had my baby at 2 am went home at 6 :30am.
Carseat in the car.

Pack for yourself a couple of nightgowns and robe (for after the baby is born) a few pairs of socks, underwear, nursing bra if you plan to nurse, a hair tie if you have long hair for the labor and delivery, camera and/or camcorder, some of your own maxipads (the hospital ones can be VERY big and bulky), toiletries, something from about 4th to 5th month pregnant to wear home (you won't be in your regular clothes YET!!!) for hubby a few clothing changes, some snacks and drinks, maybe a book or some cards, for baby, an outfit to go home in , a blanket, and it's helpful to get yourself familiar with the carseat and have it installed in your vehicle BEFORE you go to the hospital. They won't let you leave without it and they will watch and wait for you to put the baby in it, and you don't want to be fumbling around with it at the last minute.

For yourself... any toiletries that you normally would use... Slippers are a must! Something very comfortable to wear home... sweats are great! If you are into some of the good smelling lotions, maybe one that is a calming lotion. Relaxing music helps too.
For Baby... more than one outfit, you never know what is actually going to fit. Something warm to snuggle the baby up in for the car ride home. The hospital provides most of the stuff you will need for the baby while you are in the hospital.

Camera with extra batteries (and film or 1GB card).
Socks.
Something to wear home (something that fit at about 6 months preg)
Something for baby to wear home
toiletries
pillow (if you have a favorite and don't like "foreign" pillows).
My hospital had a hospitality room for dads that was stocked with drinks and snacks, but if yours only has vending machines I'd suggest a 12 pack of soda and snacks for your husband.
carseat
Other than that, the hospital gives you a gown to wear while you're there, towels for when you shower, and pretty much everything else you need.
