I doubt it. I lived in the midwest for years and we were never safe until after Memorial day. St Louis is a lot warmer than Chicago where I lived but we would warm up for easter and two weeks later we would have freak snow or a frost. I believe your safety zone is the second week in May.

April 30.
You can get away planting earlier in late April if you keep an eye on the 10 day forecast and there are no nights forecast with a low below 40F. I am often able to put my garden in a week early by doing this.

I'm in your area.. I'd wait until mid April.. it's hard to believe based on what's outside today, but we could still have another frost. For the tender stuff, wait until after tax day. It's not totally safe at that point, but it's pretty safe.
I've planted pansies, snapdragons and dianthus so far and that's all I'll do until later.. They're all OK if it frosts.
Pay attention to Kent Erhart and cover up anything that's tender if you plant earlier! :-)

Frankly, I live in Philadelphia. We have not had anything close to our last frost!! Ours is generally around the end of April. Contact your local County Extension Agent or State College. The Agent is generally in the phone book. They can give you specifics on the date and offer FREE valuable assistance on plants. Good Luck.

Perhaps to be on the safe side, use frost tolerant plants.

check the department of ag. frost zones. I think your area is 1st or 2nd week of May for last frost.
