You say "Wie geht es dir?" to a good friend, but if you talk with someone who's not so close to you, you have to ask "Wie geht es Ihnen?" I am a German national myself.
Greetings from Germany...

You may also say: 'Wie läufts denn so bei Dir in Deutschland?', 'Was geht ab bei Dir in D.?' or 'Alles klar bei Dir in D.?' to a person you know well. This is colloquial German.
The other things already mentioned are standard phrases usually used talking to a person you do not know well.
